Vision Objects Brings Handwriting Recognition Capabilities to FLY Pentop Computer

Nantes, France, April 14th, 2005 - Vision Objects, the worldwide leader in Handwriting Recognition Technology, announces today its alliance with LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc., a global leader in technology-based educational products, in the development of the FLY™ Pentop Computer.

As part of an Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) agreement Vision Objects’ MyScript Technology is bringing handwriting recognition capabilities to LeapFrog’s FLY platform. The FLY Pentop Computer is a breakthrough new computing platform that brings interactivity to pen and paper: making what you write really work. It is the first stand-alone consumer electronics device to understand handwriting (using MyScript Technology) and give users audio feedback as they write and draw. For instance, you can draw a calculator, touch the handwritten digits and functions to perform an operation – then hear the FLY Pentop Computer answer. Or write a word in English and hear it translated into Spanish. And with a quick change of cartridge, the FLY Pentop Computer offers a wide range of applications, keeping the product useful over time. The combination of Vision Objects’ expertise in Handwriting Recognition Technology and LeapFrog’s expertise in educational technology-based solutions makes the FLY Pentop Computer a revolutionary product.

With the FLY platform, Vision Objects and LeapFrog successfully resolve technical challenges. “Indeed, with FLY we proved we are able to provide natural handwriting recognition functionalities that usually need important resources for small footprint platforms like FLY,” said Stefan Knerr, CEO and founder of Vision Objects. “More importantly, we managed to offer a very flexible product that stays interesting over time.” Initially, the FLY Pentop Computer is mainly designed for tweens offering fun educational functionalities with the possibility of adapting the product to other audiences without redesigning the platform.

Founded in 1995 and based in Emeryville, California, LeapFrog has developed an important family of learning platforms. With the launch of the FLY Pentop Computer, LeapFrog strategically extends its successful learning products line into new markets, new technologies, and broadens audiences. "The introduction of the FLY Pentop Computer is an important milestone for LeapFrog," said Jim Marggraff, LeapFrog's Executive Vice President of Worldwide Content. “Vision Objects has greatly contributed to our creation of an intuitive user interface by working with our team to smoothly integrate state-of-the-art handwriting recognition capabilities into the FLY platform,” concluded Jim Marggraff.

The FLY Pentop Computer will be available in North America and Canada in the third quarter of 2005.
