Vision Objects brings handwriting recognition to Livescribe’s Pulse smartpen

Nantes, France, January 30, 2008, Vision Objects, provider of the industry standard in handwriting recognition software is proud to announce the integration of MyScript technology into both the Pulse smartpen and the Livescribe Desktop application. By using MyScript, students and professionals who regularly use pen and paper to take notes will enjoy the possibility of searching for words in handwritten text, and increasing their productivity when converting handwritten text into digital information and sharing it with friends and colleagues.

Livescribe’s Pulse smartpen, based on Anoto functionality, captures handwriting and simultaneously records lectures or conversations while writing, ensuring students and professionals will never miss a word. Users can tap directly on their paper notes and hear the corresponding sequence of the audio recording.

Under the partnership agreement, Livescribe will distribute MyScript Notes for Pulse as an add-on application. MyScript technology has also been embedded into the Pulse smartpen in order to provide impressive applications: a translation tool converts English words into a wide range of languages and a calculator carries out simple mathematical operations just by writing them down on paper.

"Users can transfer their notes from Pulse to their PC where they can organize, replay, and search for words within their written notes," said Founder and CEO Jim Marggraff. "MyScript Notes for Pulse, an add-on application from Vision Objects, will enable users to convert their handwritten notes into digital text and export to Microsoft Word, email, or other standard applications."

"Vision Objects is very proud to have shared its expertise in handwriting recognition with Livescribe in the development of this top of the line innovative smart pen, combining for the first time ever voice recording, handwriting recognition and search capabilities. Livescribe Pulse smartpen is just the perfect tool for students and professionals who take notes on a regular basis. It is ideal for any interview, meeting, or group work situation, and users will love it," said Stefan Knerr, CEO and founder of Vision Objects.
